"Behind the Scenes” Modeling and Mentoring Program

"Behind the Scenes” Modeling and Mentoring Program provides a structured curriculum of activities in a safe and supervised environment that is focused on healthy values, success oriented goals, and team building activities in a twelve week course. This program promotes positive self-esteem and fosters resilience.

 The program emphasizes:

  • Leadership Development
  • Community Involvement
  • College Preparation
  • Abstinence
  • Participation in a full fashion

“Behind the Scenes” Modeling and Mentoring Program focuses on increasing each individual’s ability to identify and express feelings productively, develop problem solving skills, and affirm a sense of purpose in their lives. The program meets these goals through educational presentations, curriculum support groups, and community projects.

Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The class ends with a full runway modeling production before a live audience.

An annual scholarship-based mentoring program is in place to help pay for the mentors’ initial college expenses. This May we will be awarding $7,750 to 5 deserving graduating seniors.

This program is sponsored by United Way of Amarillo and Canyon and Bank of America. Thank you!

Wesley Club Wrestling

Wesley Club Wrestling begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs to 7:00 p.m.  Monday through Thursdays. Fridays are weigh-ins, Saturdays are tournament days, and wrestlers take the day to travel back on Sundays. The participants travel to 23 competitive tournaments throughout the state of Texas and Oklahoma.

The three core values of the program are:

1) 2 knees for thankfulness—living a life of gratitude

2) maintain good nutrition

3) and maintain good grades.

This program provides at-risk youth the opportunity to learn wrestling techniques and skills and to practice and improve upon those skills. This is a nationally recognized program that allows children from low income families to be competitive in sports that would be unable to pay for the extra-curricular athletic fees charged by the area public schools.

This 2014-2015 season we gained the 4X Reigning Regional Champions in El Paso, Texas. As a team we placed 1st at Panhandle Nationals and keep earning our place at the top of the leader board at each tournament.  In 2014, we served a total of 135 unduplicated wrestling participants.
